Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 3: Former Minister and National Conference Additional General Secretary Ajay Kumar Sadhotra on Monday called on Chief Minister Jenab Omar Abdullah and discussed the overall situation in Jammu and Kashmir with particular focus on development initiatives, employment generation and economic empowerment of the people.
During the meeting, Sadhotra apprised the Chief Minister of various public issues and stressed the need to further accelerate development works across regions and sub-regions. He underlined the importance of further strengthening grassroots-level implementation of welfare schemes to ensure that benefits reach the intended sections in a transparent and time-bound manner.
He lauded the government's thrust on inclusive development, job creation and economic opportunities for youth and marginalised segments, saying that employment generation initiatives should be expanded in both government and private sectors, with special attention to skill development and entrepreneurship promotion.
Sadhotra also sought effective implementation of the Public Services Guarantee Act to ensure timely delivery of public services and greater accountability in governance. He said the Act must be enforced in letter and spirit so that citizens receive services within the stipulated timeframe without unnecessary delay.
The Public Services Guarantee Act, enacted during the previous spell of Omar led government, is a landmark legislation aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability in administration. Its strict implementation will significantly improve the delivery system and restore public confidence, Sadhotra said.
"The legislation was brought with the objective of addressing the urges and aspirations of the people by guaranteeing time-bound services. It is imperative that its provisions are fully operationalised," Sadhotra said in a statement after meeting the Chief Minister. He said that strengthening accountability mechanisms would not only streamline administrative functioning but also curb inefficiency and red tape.
"Good governance is measured by the ease with which a common citizen can access basic services. Ensuring timely delivery is essential for building trust between the government and the people," he said.
Sadhotra reiterated that balanced development across Jammu and Kashmir should remain a priority, with focused attention on infrastructure, education, healthcare and employment sectors. He expressed confidence that under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the government would continue to work towards fulfilling the aspirations of the people.
"The aim is to build a progressive and economically vibrant Jammu and Kashmir where governance is transparent and opportunities are accessible to all," he added.
