| Khatana concludes three-day tour of Rajouri; criticizes NC for neglecting Rajouri-Poonch | | | Early Times Report RAJOURI, Mar 5: Senior BJP leader and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha Nominated), Er. Gulam Ali Khatana, today concluded his three-day tour of Thana Mandi Assembly Constituency, District Rajouri. During the visit, he criticized the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (NC) for what he described as continued neglect of the Rajouri-Poonch region in various sectors of development. Khatana alleged that the NC leadership has diverted funds to select constituencies while ignoring the genuine developmental needs of Rajouri-Poonch. He said the region has often been treated merely as a vote bank instead of being developed on merit and priority. During his tour, Khatana held public darbars at Panjgrain and Manjakote blocks. The meetings were attended by District President Dev Raj Sharma, Samreen Khan, Mushtaq Inqlabi, Yuva Morcha President Azhar Mehmood, ST Morcha Captain Nizam Din, Mandal Presidents of Panjgrain and Manjakote, along with panchayat leaders, morcha leaders, district office bearers, and officers from various departments. A large number of local residents also participated and raised several pressing issues. Locals informed Khatana that individual and community bunkers have not been constructed for civilian safety during cross-border tensions. They highlighted poor basic amenities, including irregular drinking water supply, shortage of teachers in schools, and inadequate healthcare facilities. Many residents expressed dissatisfaction, stating that elected representatives visit only during elections and fail to address their concerns afterward. People further alleged that roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) are being constructed selectively in areas linked to Congress and NC workers, while other habitations are being ignored. Complaints were also raised regarding substandard construction work and alleged financial irregularities by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), including compromised quality and limited engagement of local skilled and unskilled labour. Residents claimed that several central development schemes exist only on paper and demanded a thorough inquiry into their implementation. Concerns were also raised about rising crime in Rajouri district, including theft and drug-related cases, calling for strict action from the authorities. The issue of pending land compensation and alleged delays in processing Start-Up and Stand-Up cases by Jammu & Kashmir Bank was also brought to Khatana's notice. Additionally, the poor condition of Gujjar boys' hostels, particularly regarding washrooms and meal facilities, was highlighted. Khatana assured the public that all grievances would be taken up at appropriate forums and that necessary steps, including inquiries where required, would be initiated to ensure justice and balanced development for the Rajouri-Poonch region. |
