Jammu, Mar 8: The CSIR–Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM), Jammu, organised a Floral Drawing and Painting Competition for children on Sunday at its main campus on Canal Road as a precursor event to the upcoming Flower Show-cum-Flori Tech Conclave 2026. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 400 students representing more than 50 schools, who were accompanied by their parents and teachers. The competition was organised by the Plant Sciences and Agrotechnology Division of CSIR-IIIM as a precursor event to the Flower Show. The competition was conducted in three age categories — Group I (5–8 years), Group II (9–12 years), and Group III (13–16 years). Children showcased impressive creativity and imagination through colourful drawings and paintings inspired by flowers, nature and the environment, transforming the campus into a lively display of artistic expression. Parents and visitors appreciated the initiative, saying that such activities help nurture creativity among children while strengthening their connection with nature. Speaking on the occasion, Director CSIR-IIIM Dr. Zabeer Ahmed said that while the institute is widely recognised for its work in drug discovery and integrative medicine at the national level, it also actively undertakes outreach programmes aimed at benefiting society. He highlighted that one of the institute’s key initiatives is the Floriculture Mission, which focuses on supporting farmers by improving cultivation practices, post-harvest handling and marketing opportunities in floriculture. The mission seeks to promote the cultivation of high-value flowers and create sustainable livelihood opportunities in the region, he said. Dr. Ahmed added that the drawing and painting competition served as a prelude to the upcoming Flower Show, which will be organised at the IIIM campus on March 14 and 15. The flower show will feature a wide range of floral varieties and decorative displays aimed at promoting awareness about floriculture, biodiversity and ornamental plants among the public. |
