| GDC Vijaypur champions gender equality through Poster Making Competition on World Water Day | | | Early Times Report VIJAYPUR, Mar 18: To commemorate World Water Day 2026, the Ecoclub in collaboration with the Department of Environmental Sciences at Government Degree College Vijaypur organized a vibrant Poster Making Competition. The event centered on the global theme "Water and Gender" and was anchored by the inspiring slogan "Where Water Flows, Equality Grows." The initiative aimed to sensitize students to the intersectional challenges of water scarcity and its disproportionate impact on women and girls, while highlighting how sustainable water management can foster social equity. The competition was organized under the guidance and patronage of the Principal, Dr. Ashu Vashisht, who lauded the efforts of the organizing departments. In her address, she emphasized that achieving water security is intrinsically linked to achieving gender justice. The proceedings were spearheaded by Dr. Arti Sharma, Convenor of the Ecoclub and Head of the Department of Environmental Sciences. She briefed the participants on how equitable access to water resources can empower communities and bridge the gender gap in rural and urban landscapes. Students showcased their creativity and analytical thinking through diverse artistic interpretations. The entries were evaluated based on creativity, relevance to the theme, and visual impact by Dr. Manoj Heer, Head, Department of Dogri and Dr. Naseem Choudhary, Head, Department of English. Winners of the Competition were: First Prize - Shravan Naryan Mathur, B.A Sem-2 Second Prize - Tanish Dhotra, B. Com Sem-2 Third Prize - Ranjit Kour B.Sc Sem-6 The event saw active participation and support from several senior faculty members, including Dr. Anoop Singh, Head, Department of Sociology and Prof. Meetu Sharma. The faculty members interacted with the students, encouraging them to become ambassadors for water conservation and social change. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks and a pledge by the students to promote the message that equality truly grows where water flows. |
