Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 23: A Jammu court has remanded an accused to judicial custody till April 6, 2026 in connection with the alleged attack on Dr. Farooq Abdullah. The order was passed by the court of Jeewan Kumar Sharma, Sub Judge (Judicial Magistrate First Class), Jammu, in FIR No. 29/2026 registered at Police Station Gangyal, Jammu under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 3/25 of the Arms Act. As per the remand order, the accused has been identified as Kamal Singh, son of Late Ajit Singh Jamwal, resident of Purani Mandi, Jammu. He was produced before the court by Arvind Kumar Sambyal, DySP and Member SIT, while the police sought judicial remand on the ground that investigation in the case was still incomplete. The order states that the accused had been arrested on March 11, 2026 and was produced before the court in person. Advocate Prince Khanna appeared for the accused and opposed the remand. The court also noted that the accused was found medically fit as per the medical certificate placed on record and that the case diary was produced and perused. After considering the material on record, Sub-Judge Jammu Jeewan Kumar Sharma observed that the investigation of the case was not yet complete and that the accused had not been admitted to bail. The court accordingly accepted the police application and ordered that the accused be remanded to judicial custody till April 6, 2026, to be lodged in District Jail, Jammu. The court further directed the Superintendent, District Jail, Jammu to provide the accused all basic amenities during the remand period and to ensure regular medical examination. The jail authorities have also been asked to produce the accused before the competent Magistrate on or before April 6, 2026.
The case has attracted attention as it relates to the alleged attack on Dr. Farooq Abdullah, and the investigation is continuing under police supervision. With the accused now sent to judicial custody, further developments in the case are awaited. (JNF)
