Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 24: The Department of Mathematics, University of Jammu, successfully organized the 33rd One-Day Student Conference in collaboration with the Jammu Mathematical Society (JMS) on March 24, 2026. The conference, a flagship academic activity of the department, provided a vibrant platform for students to present their ideas and research.
The conference was inaugurated by the Dean Academic Affairs, Professor J. P. Singh Joorel, who, in his inaugural address, highlighted the indispensable role of Mathematics in academics as well as in day-to-day life. He motivated students to appreciate the subject not only as a discipline but also as a tool for solving real-world problems.
Dr. Tirth Ram, Secretary of the Jammu Mathematical Society, spoke about the activities and achievements of the JMS, underlining its continuous efforts to promote mathematical education and research in the region.
Earlier, Professor Romesh Kumar, Head, Department of Mathematics, University of Jammu, and President, Jammu Mathematical Society, delivered the welcome address and emphasized the importance of such student-led initiatives in fostering academic growth and confidence among young learners.
The inaugural function was attended by distinguished faculty members, including Professor K. S. Charak, Dr. Shallu Sharma, Dr. Sarika Verma, Dr. Manish Kumar, and Dr. Tarun Kumar Chuhan, along with faculty from affiliated colleges and research scholars.
The One-Day Student Conference holds a unique place as it is entirely organized by students, with participation also exclusively from students. This distinctive feature encourages leadership, teamwork, and academic excellence among them.
As part of the conference, prizes will be awarded for the three best presentations in both Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) categories. The winners will be felicitated during the inaugural function of the upcoming National Seminar on "Topological Algebraic Analysis and Applications," to be organized by the Department of Mathematics, University of Jammu, from April 23-25, 2026. The event concluded on a note of enthusiasm and academic engagement, reaffirming the department's commitment to nurturing young mathematical talent.
