Early Times Report CHANDIGARH, Mar 30: The Department of Zoology at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, under the aegis of the R&D Cell/Climate Cell of the Institution's Innovation Council (IIC), organised an Industry-Academia R&D Meet-up on Beekeeping. The initiative aimed to foster research collaboration and explore internship opportunities in apiculture for B.Sc. Medical students. The meet-up featured Mr. Madan Sharma, Director, Global Apiaries (India), Dera Bassi, as the resource person. Sharma delivered an insightful session on scientific beekeeping, emphasising modern techniques, sustainable practices, and emerging prospects in the field. A dedicated exhibition counter showcasing a diverse range of bee products, including various types of honey and other value-added products, was a major highlight of the event. Students also gained hands-on exposure to essential beekeeping equipment such as bee boxes, frames, smokers, protective gear, and honey extraction tools. This practical demonstration enabled participants to develop a deeper understanding of apiculture techniques, honey processing, and entrepreneurial opportunities in the sector. The interactive session included discussions on the potential establishment of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the introduction of structured internship programs, and the development of a knowledge partnership to strengthen long-term industry-academia collaboration. The meet-up proved to be an enriching platform for promoting research initiatives, enhancing practical learning, and opening new avenues for student engagement in apiculture. Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma lauded the initiative and appreciated the Department of Zoology for organising a meaningful and industry-oriented academic activity that contributes to the holistic development of students. |
