| District Jammu Police achieves major milestones in #fight against #drug menace in first Quarter of 2026 | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 1: Accelerating its firm actions action drug menace in the District, In a determined effort to combat the menace of drugs, the Jammu Police in the first quarter of 2026 undertook extensive operations during the current year, achieving significant success in their mission to curb narco-crimes in the district. As part of its anti-drug drive, the police registered 88 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested 127 individuals including several Kingpin's involved in drug peddling, 40 vehicles involved in these cases were also seized. It is pertinent to mention here that 79 FIRs were registered in heroin (Chitta) cases alone and 117 individuals arrested in these cases. Out of 88 NDPS Act Cases registered during the 1st Quarter of 2026, 07 cases (06 Heroin & 01 Non- Heroin) are commercial in quantity. In these 07 cases, 10 accused persons have been arrested so far. Jammu police is seriously working to identify all the drug peddlers in the region and book hardcore drug peddlers under PIT NDPS and attach their proceeds of narcotics, illegally acquired properties. The police also recovered contraband and psychotropic substances including 10 Kg 757 Grams heroin worth more than ? 65 crores in the international market. This recovery underscores the magnitude of the narcotics trade in the region and the police's relentless efforts to intercept and eradicate the supply chain. Recognizing the importance of public awareness in the fight against drug abuse, the Jammu Police conducted 146 Drug awareness programs/IEC campaign including School/Colleges level debates, 18 PCPG meetings, 12 Thana Diwas across the district during the current year. These initiatives aimed to educate the public, especially the youth, about the dangers of drug abuse and to promote a drug-free society. The campaigns were well-received and have played a crucial role in fostering community support for anti-drug initiatives. 176 Drug awareness programmes including several successful Antidrug Rallies were organised during this period with special focus on suspected Drug hotspots . Jammu Police is working seriously on all fronts to demolish the remaining drug hotspots with the active support of civil administration and General Public. identification and concrete actions on mini-drug hotspots is also going on. The Jammu Police's efforts in the current year so far mark a significant stride in the ongoing battle against drugs. By combining enforcement with awareness, they have set a robust precedent for tackling the drug menace and safeguarding the future of the community. Jammu Police is working intensively to uproot the chains of drug supply in the region and fully committed for rehabilitation of drug addicts. To promote de-addiction facilities in year-2026, so far 451 patients visited OPD with 87 patients at IPD were facilitated de-addiction treatment at Police Drug DE-addiction, Rehabilitation, Mental* Health Care Centre" Channi, Jammu during the aforementioned period. Jammu Police is working intensively to uproot the chains of drug supply in the region and fully committed for rehabilitation of drug addicts. To facilitate the Drug Deaddiction/Rehabilitation of Drug addicts, one of the largest and well equipped "Police Drug Deaddiction, Rehabilitation and Mental Health Care Centre Channi, Jammu" is functioning in the district. It is pertinent to mention here that during the 1st quarter of 2026, 451 patients/drug addicts visited OPD of Police Drug Deaddiction Centre and 87 patients admitted during the period. J&K police is making serious efforts to further upgrade the Deaddiction facilities for victims of drug menace.* Jammu police is working also to utilise technological tools like installation of CCTV's, FRS linked CCTV's and ANPR Cameras on all the major Drug hotspots and vulnerable locations like bus stands and vital interstate nakas and border junctions. Most of the major Drug hotspots have been covered so far with CCTV's. Jammu Police is currently also working on identification of all the mini-Drug hotspots to uproot the problem of drug menace from all the corners of Jammu District. Jammu Police is striving hard and taking every possible step to make people especially youth aware to eradicate drug menace.
