IGNOU Regional Centre Jammu holds 39th Convocation ceremony

JAMMU, Apr 7: Indira Gandhi National Open University organized its 39th Convocation today on the 7th of April, 2026. The Convocation ceremony was organised at all Regional Centres across the Country concurrently including the Regional Centre Jammu with main function held at the New Delhi Headquarters of IGNOU where C.P. Radhakrishnan, Vice President of India, delivered the Convocation address. More than Three Lakh students were declared qualified to be presented with the degree/diploma/certificate in the convocation functions at IGNOU Headquarters and all Regional Centres across the country. Under the Jammu region, a huge number of 10168 students were declared successful and eligible to receive Diplomas and Degree Certificates in the 39th Convocation function at Jammu which included 4590 students of Master Degree programmes, 5121 students of Bachelor Degree programmes, 387 learners of Diploma/Post Graduate Diploma programmes and 70 students of Certificate/Post Graduate Certificate programmes. It is worthwhile to mention that Jammu Regional Centre figures at 8th position in terms of total number of student pass outs across the Country out of 57 Regional Centres. The 39th Convocation function of Regional Centre Jammu which was organized in the Auditorium of Convention Centre, Canal Road, Jammu where Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, Indian Institute of Management, Jammu delivered Convocation Address as the Guest of Honour and conferred Degrees upon the Awardees.
The event saw the presence of State Election Commissioner, Shantmanu, MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia, IG CRPF, Rajesh Yadav, Padma Awardees of Jammu- Balwant Thakur, Romalo Ram, S.P. Verma, and Dr. Jitendra Udhampuri, Principal GCW Gandhi Nagar, Dr. Kulvinder Kour, Badminton Veteran Romesh Kumar Sharma, Alumnus Malu Sharma, Activist Padam Dev Singh who were felicitated as distinguished Invites on the occasion. The Coordinators and Programme Incharges of IGNOU, Dr. Rajeev Rattan, Dr. Parshotam Singh Thakur, Dr. Madan Jha, Kiran Bala, Seema Sharma, Dr. Balbir Kumar were also present on the occasion. The Convocation ceremony started with the lighting of traditional lamps by the dignitaries and Saraswati Vandana by the students of Central Sanskrit University followed by the felicitation of distinguished guests. Alka Sharma Assistant Regional Director Dr. Zeba compered the ceremony.
The University had earlier created an online portal for the eligible students to register for the 39th Convocation. The students who registered and submitted their consent to receive the degree in person were invited as per IGNOU guidelines to confer upon the Degree in the Convocation ceremony. Those who had registered and given their consent to receive Diploma/Degree through post would be sent their respective Degree/Diploma/Certificate through Speed Post after the Convocation ceremony.
As per the details provided by IGNOU authorities, as many as 317 qualified students had submitted the requisite fee and consent to receive their respective Degree/Diploma certificates in person out of which 180 students were given Degree/Diploma certificates in the Convocation function at Jammu today. Prof. B.S. Sahay in his address congratulated the Awardees and lauded the efforts of Regional Centre Jammu in reaching out to the far off corners of the region with the beacon of light in the form of education. Prof. Sahay termed the 39th Convocation of IGNOU as an occasion of Celebration of IGNOU's achievements which is popularly known as the People's University accessible to all those far and wide who otherwise would have lost the opportunity to gain access to higher education, improve upon their qualification and increase the chances of employment.
