Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 11: Jammu based Centre for Activities for Advanced, Strong and Progressive India (CAASPI) has profoundly lauded the Maga Launch of 100-day campaign on Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan by J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha today and extended its full support for this bold and much needed initiative. Today's launch of a well-meaning campaign with massive public support is indicative of the serious challenge the society faces on this count and commitment of people to control this menace.
Founded in May last year at the initiative a well-known criminologist Advocate Rameshwar Singh Jamwal, President of the Criminologists Society of J&K, the CAASPI comprises prominent former civil servants including former Chief Justice High Court of J&K and Ladakh, Justice Tashi Rabstan, former DGP & CVC Kuldeep Khoda, former DGPs Dr. Ashok Bhan & Dr S P Vaid, former Chief Secretary, B R Sharma, Maj Gen ( Retd) S K Sharma, former IIS officer & Addl. DG(Media & Communication) Bharti Vaid & former IAS officer & Member J & K PSC, K B Jandial.
A spokesman of the CAASPI, said here today that creating mass awareness against the fast-growing menace of drug abuse is one of the focused concerns of the Group which it considers a serious social challenge to the society which have ruined many families. The Group has visited some of the Drug Deaddiction Centres in the Jammu city and offered its assistance. It is planning to organise awareness lectures to sensitise teachers and students against drug abuse as part of its activities.
He said that lack of coordination especially in civil defence and public response witnessed between the local administration and the civil society during Operation Sindoor last year, was the immediate motivation for these like-minded former high ranking public servants to join hands to create a voluntary public structure to help the local administration in such emergencies. It has already held some productive interactive sessions with Home Guards and Civil Defence and Disaster Management organisations and is currently engaged in expanding the ranks of the Home Guards by involving students, army and police veterans and other willing residents who would be trained by Govt agencies and prepare a dependable civil defence force to help people in future situations like of Operation Sindoor, and natural calamities.
The CAASPI has recently submitted to the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Ramesh Kumar, a comprehensive proposal to create a 'Social Defence Volunteer Groups' that can provide trained manpower support to the existing HG/CD structure to enhance synergy to deal with emergency situations.
