| International Jatt Ekta Divas, Baisakhi Mela organised in RS Pura | | | Early Times Report RS PURA, Apr 12: The All Jammu and Kashmir Jatt Sabha today organised a one-day International Jatt Ekta Divas and Baisakhi Mela in the border town of R.S. Pura subdivision in Jammu district of the Union Territory. As per a press release, former Minister and President of the Jatt Sabha, S. Manjit Singh, was the chief guest at the well-attended convention. Speaking on the occasion, he recalled that a deputation of the Jatt Sabha had called on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and submitted a memorandum demanding Other Backward Class (OBC) status for the Jatts of Jammu and Kashmir in central government jobs and educational institutions. He said that the Jatt community has faced social, political, and economic challenges that need to be addressed by the government by providing adequate facilities, including OBC benefits at the central level. On this occasion, former Minister S. Manjit Singh appointed Rishab Choudhary as General Secretary of the Youth Wing, All J&K Jatt Sabha. He also congratulated former Minister Choudhary Sukhnandan, who is the chairman of the membership drive, and appealed to community members to enrol themselves in the Jatt Sabha. Meanwhile, former MP and Chief Patron Tarlok Singh Bajwa demanded the installation of a statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in Jammu district in recognition of his historic contributions. He said that Maharaja Ranjit Singh took over Jammu and Kashmir from the Mughal rulers, and later the Dogra rulers assumed control of the erstwhile state. Meanwhile, former Minister and Vice President of the Jatt Sabha, Choudhary Sukhnandan, demanded an assessment of the losses suffered by farmers, fruit growers, and vegetable growers due to recent rainfall and hailstorms, and called for adequate compensation. Besides, former DDC and former Vice President Taranjit Singh Tony demanded the full release of the pending relief package of Rs 25 lakh for displaced persons (DPs). He said that the government has so far released only Rs 5.5 lakh, while the remaining amount is still pending. MLA Bahu Vikram Randhawa demanded that displaced persons from Chhamb be granted ownership rights over the custodian and government lands allotted to them decades ago. On this occasion, patron of Jatt Sabha, Choudhary Ujagar, donated Rs 5 lakhs and appealed to the youth to stay away from drug addiction and work for nation-building. Former Minister Garu Choudhary also addressed the gathering. Among others present were Partap Choudhary, former Corporator and District President (Jammu Urban); Dwarka Choudhary; Choudhary Jarnail; Choudhary Naresh Bittu, District President (Rural); Manjit Jatt, District President Samba; Bachan Choudhary, youth leader; Mandeep Choudhary; Ranjeet Singh Goldy; Naveen Choudhary; Shubham Choudhary; former Sarpanch Reena Choudhary; Sushma Choudhary; Rakesh Choudhary; ex-sarpanch Khanna; retired Chief Engineer Kuldeep Nathyal; retired XEN Yashpal Choudhary; Choudhary Sarvan and several former sarpanches, corporators, panches, and other prominent citizens. Importantly, senior leader of Jatt Sabha, Choudhary Jeet organized community langar for the participants. |
