4/14/2026 10:35:03 PM
Early Times Report
REASI, Apr 14: Under the leadership of SSP Reasi Sh. Mukund Tibrewal, IPS, Reasi Police, continuing its sustained drive against drug abuse under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, achieved a significant success by apprehending a drug peddler and recovering contraband substance.
On 13.04.2026, during routine patrolling, a naka was established on the Katra-Reasi road near Asia Chowk for checking purposes. During naka checking, one suspicious person approaching from K.C. Residency towards Asia Chowk was intercepted and questioned.
During preliminary inquiry, the individual identified himself as Karmat Ali S/o Sakhi Mohd R/o Bhaga, Tehsil Katra, District Reasi. Upon conducting his personal search, a small black-coloured polythene bag containing approximately 3 grams of heroin was recovered
On further questioning, the accused failed to provide any satisfactory explanation regarding the recovered contraband. Preliminary inquiry revealed that he is a habitual drug consumer and was also involved in drug peddling, allegedly supplying narcotics among the youth in the Katra area. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 109/2026 under sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Katra and further investigation is underway. The whole operation was carried out under the supervision of SHO P/S Katra Insp. Ranjeet Singh Rao, under the close supervision of SDPO Katra Dr. Bhishm Dubey, JKPS and SP Katra Kameshwar Puri, JKPS. Reasi Police remains committed to eradicating the menace of drugs and urges the public to cooperate by sharing any information related to drug abuse or peddling, ensuring a safer and drug-free society.
