| Nine-month road closure near Nansu Shiv Mandir causes hardship ahead of Baisakhi Mela | | | ASHWANI SHARMA Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, Apr 14: A key road stretch from Baba Lodnda to Nansu Shiv Mandir along the National Highway in Udhampur East constituency has remained closed for the past nine months, causing significant inconvenience to local residents and devotees. The road was severely damaged at two locations due to heavy rainfall on August 26-27, 2025. Since then, the affected portions have not been fully repaired, leaving the route unfit for vehicular movement. As a result, people living in nearby areas are facing daily difficulties, particularly in transportation and access to essential services. The situation has gained more attention with the ongoing three-day Baisakhi Mela at Nansu Shiv Mandir from April 13 to April 15. Due to the damaged road, visitors and devotees are forced to park their vehicles at a distance and walk to the temple, adding to their inconvenience. Meanwhile, Udhampur East constituency MLA RS Pathania acknowledged the issue and stated that temporary restoration of the road has been carried out from the other side to facilitate movement. He further informed that the tender for the complete repair of the damaged portion has already been finalized. "The work on proper restoration will begin soon, and the damaged stretch will be rebuilt at the earliest," he assured. He also extended his greetings to the public on the occasion of Baisakhi. Despite these assurances, locals continue to demand urgent action to restore full connectivity, especially during the festive period when the number of visitors increases significantly. |
