Early Times Report
NEW DELHI, Apr 30: "Vaccines save millions of lives every year-both in children and adults." With this message, World Immunization Week was observed from April 24 to 30, aiming to spread awareness about the importance of vaccination across all sections of society. On this occasion, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ObGyn) at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) and Safdarjung Hospital organized a series of impactful awareness programmes.
The initiative was led by Dr. Saritha Shamsunder and Dr. Sumitra Bachhani under the guidance of Director Dr. Kavita Rani Sharma, Principal Dr. Geetika Khanna, and Head of Department Dr. Bindu Bajaj. The events were organized in collaboration with AOGD and FOGSI, based on the theme "Saving Generations by Vaccination," with a focus on highlighting the importance of immunization and dispelling widespread misconceptions. As part of the programme series, a national-level quiz competition for medical students was organized on April 27 by the Anoobhuti Quiz Team of VMMC. Students from various medical colleges across the country participated enthusiastically, showcasing their knowledge of immunization and public health. The competition not only fostered healthy academic engagement but also deepened awareness of vaccination-related issues among future healthcare professionals.
On April 29, a public forum and poster exhibition were held, where nursing students from RAKCON Nursing College played a proactive role in addressing myths and misconceptions related to the HPV vaccine. Through simple explanations and effective visual presentations, they educated the public about the importance of the HPV vaccine in preventing serious conditions such as cervical cancer.
The events witnessed enthusiastic participation from the general public, students, and healthcare workers. Attendees actively engaged in discussions, asked questions, and received accurate information from experts. Such interactive initiatives helped build trust and encouraged a more positive outlook towards vaccination.
Overall, the initiative aimed not only to raise awareness about immunization but also to eliminate misinformation and promote a healthier, safer future for upcoming generations. Organizers expressed hope that such efforts will continue and inspire more people to understand and adopt vaccination as a crucial step toward public health.
