Ahmedabad, May 3: A 46-year-old man was killed and three others sustained injuries after an iron barricade fell on an autorickshaw, causing it to overturn on a highway in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad on Sunday, police said. The accident occurred in the Makarba area on the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar Highway around 9.15 am, an official said. Ajay Mahto, a labourer hailing from Bihar, was killed, while the injured have been identified as Ranjan Mandal, Dinesh Mandal and Sanjeev Dhanur, he said. According to police, a bus plying on the road created strong wind pressure, causing one of the iron barricades placed for an under-construction bridge to fall on the moving autorickshaw. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn. Locals rushed to help and alerted the 108 ambulance service and police, but Mahto was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel. An accidental death has been registered, and further investigation is underway, the official added. (PTI) |
