Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 4: A detailed review meeting with all Principal Census Officers which included Deputy Commissioners of districts and Commissioners of Jammu and Srinagar Municipal Corporations, was held today under the chairmanship of Amit Sharma, IAS, Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) and Director Census Operations (DCO), Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, to assess the progress of Census 2027 preparations across the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
During the Meeting, CPCO Amit Sharma focused on key agenda points including appointment and registration of Enumerators and Supervisors, training of field functionaries, formation of House Listing Blocks (HLBs), publicity measures, implementation of self-enumeration and administrative preparedness.
During the review, it was informed that appointment of Enumerators and Supervisors has been completed across all districts and their details have been uploaded on the Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS). Directions were issued to ensure that any pending discrepancies in registration are rectified immediately to enable seamless monitoring of field operations.
The status of training was also reviewed by CPCO Amit Sharma, with Field Trainer trainings completed in most districts and the district administrations informing that remaining sessions will be concluded shortly. It was emphasised that subsequent training of Enumerators and Supervisors should be carried out in a structured and uniform manner, with due focus on concepts, field protocols and use of digital applications.
One critical point shared by CPCO Amit Sharma in the meeting was related to publicity activities to be undertaken at the district level. It was informed that awareness campaigns are being carried out through multiple channels including hoardings, posters, mobile announcement vans, radio, television and social media. Engagement of public representatives, prominent personalities and sportspersons for promotion of Census 2027 and Self-Enumeration is also underway. Directions were issued by Amit to further intensify outreach efforts to ensure maximum participation of the public in Self-Enumeration with facilitation through district administration.
Progress on formation of House Listing Blocks was discussed in detail by CPCO Amit Sharma. Districts were directed to ensure timely and accurate finalization of HLBs, with particular attention to proper demarcation and elimination of any duplication or gaps in coverage. Status of devolution of funds and expenditure, were also reviewed. All districts were assured that any issues faced on these matters will be resolved in a time-bound manner.
The meeting concluded with instructions from Amit Sharma for strict adherence to timelines and close coordination at all levels to ensure smooth and efficient conduct of Census 2027 towards which all PCOs and their teams assured holistic compliance in the coming days.
