Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 6: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Information Technology, Youth Services & Sports, and Science & Technology, Satish Sharma, today called upon the youth to become torchbearers of discipline, integrity and national pride at the annual day celebration of BSF Senior Secondary School, Jammu.
Addressing a gathering of students, teachers, parents and BSF personnel, the Minister described the occasion as a moment of pride and inspiration. He highlighted the unique legacy of the institution, noting that it nurtures the young minds in an environment shaped by the courage, sacrifice and service of the Border Security Force.
Emphasizing the vital role of youth in nation-building, Satish Sharma said that the strength of the country lies in the character of its young generation. He encouraged the students to draw inspiration from the dedication of BSF personnel who safeguard the nation under the most challenging conditions.
Appealing for a united fight against the growing menace of drug abuse, the Minister termed it one of the gravest threats facing society today. He underscored the Government's firm commitment towards combating narcotics through strict enforcement, robust rehabilitation measures and widespread awareness. He called upon the students to act as the first line of defense against this menace by making informed and responsible choices.
"Real strength lies in refusal," he said, urging the young people to stand firm against peer pressure and reject any path that compromises their future. He stressed that a mind affected by addiction cannot contribute meaningfully to the nation.
Highlighting the true essence of nationalism, Satish Sharma remarked that it goes beyond slogans and is reflected in everyday actions, through hard work, respect for others, environmental responsibility, and unwavering honesty. He encouraged the students to strive for excellence in their studies and contribute positively to society.
Referring to the theme of global unity, he spoke about the importance of embracing both national pride and global citizenship. He said that being a proud Indian and a responsible global citizen are complementary ideals that strengthen one's outlook and contribution.
The Minister also reiterated the Government's focus on youth engagement, sports development and technological advancement. He emphasized that platforms in sports, innovation and digital empowerment are being expanded to help the young people realize their full potential and lead the region toward growth and progress.
Congratulating the school administration, faculty and students, Satish Sharma lauded the institution for fostering an environment of excellence and character-building. He also commended the award-winning students for their achievements and encouraged them to continue striving for greater heights.
