Early Times Report YOL (HIMACHAL PRADESH), May 14: On the 33rd day of the ongoing 78-day Yajna dedicated to all four Vedas at Ved Mandir, renowned Vedic scholar Swami Ram Swarup delivered an enlightening discourse based on Rigveda Mantra 10/20/1. Explaining the mantra "Bhadram No Api Vaataya Manah," Swami Ji said that it means, "O Almighty! Inspire our minds to walk on the path of welfare and righteousness." He stated that while this is a prayer to God, the four Vedas clearly teach that God is not pleased merely by prayers; one must also perform virtuous deeds in accordance with those prayers. He emphasized that practicing the Vedic way of life and disciplining the mind according to Vedic teachings enables an individual to bring the mind under the control of the soul. Referring to Atharvaveda Mantra 6/41/1, Swami Ji explained that one should contemplate and reflect upon Vedic mantras through the mind, purify the consciousness for acquiring divine knowledge, and develop pure intellect to attain concentration and spiritual awareness. He further said that performing Agnihotra/Yajna with devotion and following only those actions prescribed in the Vedas while avoiding sinful and unrighteous deeds gradually purifies the mind. The Vedas also instruct human beings to abandon anger, avoid speaking harsh words, and remain engaged in noble actions. Such conduct, he said, helps the mind withdraw from negativity and evil tendencies. While elaborating on another Vedic hymn, Swami Ji said that whenever sinful thoughts arise in the mind, one should consciously reject them and instead engage in righteous actions. He also stressed the importance of acquiring Vedic knowledge from learned scholars and spiritual teachers. Swami Ram Swarup further advised devotees to repeatedly study and understand the mantras of Chapter 34 of the Yajurveda for attaining peace, prosperity, a happy family life, and ultimately salvation. He said that even offering prayers through a few of these mantras and making daily offerings in the sacred fire helps free the mind from sinful tendencies. He urged people to learn and practice daily Agnihotra/Yajna and Yoga under the guidance of knowledgeable Vedic scholars. According to him, regular worship through Vedic mantras, control over negative thoughts, and adherence to Dharma help individuals move away from immoral actions and lead a disciplined and spiritual life. Summing up the essence of the teachings, Swami Ji said that the central message of these mantras is a prayer to the Almighty to keep the mind under control, renounce evil deeds, and perform only righteous actions according to the Vedas.Quoting a popular saying, he remarked, "Man Jeete Jag Jeet" - one who conquers the mind conquers the world. He added that true happiness, peace, prosperity, and a harmonious family life can only be achieved through self-control and mastery over the senses. |
