Katra has got a new helipad and a new Vaishnavi Bhawan. The new facilities will significantly enhance the accessibility to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine and pilgrim accommodation capacity. The helipad, measuring 100 x 75 metres, has been developed to improve accessibility for pilgrims visiting the revered Vaishno Devi shrine. The new facility is expected to significantly reduce travel difficulties and provide faster access to the pilgrimage destination. The new Bhawan is a step towards improving overall pilgrim amenities and create a modern, efficient and comfortable infrastructure designed to accommodate the growing influx of devotees. By expanding accommodation capacity, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SASB) has demonstrated its commitment to making the pilgrimage more organized and comfortable. The construction work of the building commenced in the month of February 2024 and the building was completed in a time period of two years. The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine is among the most sacred and visited pilgrimage destinations in India. Every year, lakhs of pilgrims from across the country and abroad undertake the spiritual journey to seek the blessings of the Goddess. Managing such a massive influx of visitors requires world-class infrastructure that balances convenience with safety while preserving the sanctity of the pilgrimage. The new helipad and Vaishnavi Bhawan are timely interventions that address these needs effectively. Beyond convenience, these facilities have broader economic and developmental implications for the region. Better pilgrim infrastructure translates into increased tourism activity, which directly benefits local businesses, transport operators, hoteliers, shopkeepers, and service providers in Katra and surrounding areas. This ripple effect strengthens the local economy and creates livelihood opportunities for thousands. The development also reflects the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board’s sustained efforts to modernize facilities without compromising the spiritual essence of the pilgrimage. It is an example of how faith-based tourism can be integrated with contemporary infrastructure planning to deliver lasting benefits. The new helipad and Vaishnavi Bhawan stand as symbols of progress, devotion, and service. They reaffirm that when infrastructure is developed with purpose and sensitivity, it not only enhances convenience but also deepens the spiritual experience for countless devotees. Katra’s continued evolution as a world-class pilgrimage hub is a matter of pride for Jammu and Kashmir and for the nation as a whole. |
