Reasi police recovers contraband substance; three accused arrested

REASI, May 22: Continuing its drive against drug abuse under the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan, District Police Reasi achieved success by recovering heroin and arresting three accused persons in Katra. During routine hotel checking in Katra town on 21 May, Police apprehended two persons namely Rakesh Kumar S/O Bishan Das R/O Nagrota and Manjeet Kaur W/O Late Harpreet Singh R/O Amritsar, Punjab, from Devi Lodge, Katra, who were found in an intoxicated condition. Manjeet Kaur is an interstate accused from Punjab.
During their search, police recovered approximately 2.5 grams of heroin along with foil papers and other incriminating material from their possession. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were allegedly involved in drug abuse and intended sale of the contraband substance among the youth of District Reasi.
During further investigation, one more person namely Varinder Singh S/O Kamal Singh R/O Mari, Reasi, who had allegedly come to purchase the contraband substance, was also apprehended. Police recovered cash amounting to Rs. 26,730 from his possession, which he had allegedly brought for purchasing the drug.
All the accused were arrested on the spot. In this regard, a case FIR No. 157/2026 under sections 8/21/22/29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Katra and further investigation is underway.
District Police Reasi appeals to the general public, especially the youth, to stay away from drugs and cooperate with police in making society drug-free.
Citizens are requested to share any information related to drug peddling or drug abuse with the nearest police establishment so that strict action can be taken against those involved in such illegal activities.
