| Amit visits Kathua & Samba to assess SE progress & Census 2027 preparedness | | | Early Times Report KATHUA, May 22: Amit Sharma, IAS, Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) and Director Census Operations & Citizen Registration (DCo/DCR), Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, today visited twin districts of Kathua & Samba to review Self Enumeration progress and overall preparation for Census 2027 with both Principal Census Officers-cum-Deputy Commissioners of Kathua and Samba, Rajesh Sharma, JKAS and Ayushi Sudan, IAS respectively. CPCO Amit Sharma's visits were focussed on assessment of the progress of Self-Enumeration and various preparatory activities underway for Census 2027 in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir where these highway districts of Kathua and Samba hold a strategic importance. Both the Principal Census Officers-cum-Deputy Commissioners of Kathua and Samba shared district-wise preparedness relating to Self-Enumeration, House Listing Block (HLB) demarcation and geo-tagging, training of Enumerators and Supervisors, media and publicity activities, mapping and jurisdictional updations, distribution of Census materials and financial management of Census-related activities with CPCO Amit Sharma which were also counter confirmed by District Prabharis of Census Directorate. During the review interactions, Amit Sharma took a comprehensive assessment of the ongoing Self-Enumeration exercise and appreciated the encouraging public participation being witnessed across both districts. He emphasised the importance of maintaining continuous awareness generation activities, thematic publicity campaigns and public facilitation mechanisms to ensure maximum citizen participation in the ongoing digital Census exercise. The progress of HLB demarcation and geo-tagging activities was also reviewed in detail, during which it was informed that all identified House Listing Blocks in Kathua and Samba districts have been fully demarcated and geo-tagged as part of the preparatory activities for Census 2027. Amit Sharma appreciated the timely completion of these important groundwork activities and stressed upon regular updation and verification of jurisdictional changes on the HLBC portal. Amit Sharma also reviewed the status of training programmes being conducted for Enumerators and Supervisors across both districts. It was informed that the scheduled training activities have been completed successfully and field-level Census functionaries have been adequately oriented regarding digital Census applications, operational protocols and field procedures for smooth conduct of Census operations. Detailed discussions were also held regarding media outreach and publicity campaigns being undertaken in connection with Self-Enumeration including participation of public representatives and dignitaries in the Self-Enumeration exercise, district-level awareness drives and thematic publicity activities. Amit Sharma stressed upon continued public engagement through coordinated IEC and digital outreach initiatives. The status of receipt and distribution of Census kit items was also reviewed during the meeting. Shri Amit Sharma directed that proper charge-wise records regarding receipt, dispatch and disbursement of materials to Enumerators and Supervisors should be maintained systematically for smooth operational management during field activities. Discussions were also held regarding updation of village and urban jurisdiction records, incorporation of jurisdictional changes and submission of pending boundary maps for integration on the HLBC portal. Necessary directions were issued for timely verification and updation of village and town master databases in coordination with district authorities. |
