Omar Abdullah Govt Choked Corruption Channels active during BJP era in J&K: Rattan Lal Gupta
5/26/2026 9:58:24 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 26: Launching a blistering attack on the BJP, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Provincial President Jammu, Rattan Lal Gupta said the BJP leadership is rattled and politically frustrated because the Omar Abdullah-led government has restored transparency, accountability, and public scrutiny in governance, effectively choking the channels of corruption that flourished during BJP's direct rule in Jammu and Kashmir.
Responding to what he termed the BJP's "bogus propaganda campaign," Gupta said the party is in deep distress as its entrenched networks of patronage and profiteering have collapsed under an elected government committed to clean administration. "They are suffering like fish without water because their sources have dried up. The frustration within the BJP is palpable," he said.
Gupta asserted that every penny spent by the present government is now subjected to legislative oversight and public accountability, unlike during BJP's rule, when decisions and budgets were cleared in New Delhi by bypassing democratic institutions. "During BJP's direct rule, budgets were sanctioned behind closed doors while their local leaders amassed enormous wealth. Today, that unchecked loot has stopped. The Omar government has shut down their shops of corruption," he said.
Taking direct aim at the BJP's functioning in Jammu, Gupta alleged that the party had institutionalised land mafias, mining mafias, and recruitment rackets during its tenure, all of which are now being dismantled under the National Conference government.
He further questioned the credibility and visibility of LOP who has vanished from his own Padder constituency after elections.
"Before preaching governance to the National Conference, BJP leaders should first explain why they are missing from the ground. Even their Leader of Opposition is rarely seen in his own Padder constituency. People in Paddar are searching for him, Gupta remarked.
Gupta said the BJP has no moral authority to lecture anyone on governance until it answers serious questions regarding rampant corruption, unchecked bungling, and administrative collapse during its tenure in Jammu and Kashmir. "Before pointing fingers at Omar Abdullah's government, the BJP must come clean on the scams, misgovernance, and institutional decay that defined its years in power," he added.
