Early Times Report JAMMU, May 27: Gorakh Nagar Bahu Fort Jammu observed Mahaparinivan Divas of Ramabai Ambedkar at Gorakh Nagar Bahu Fort Jammu. While speaking on this occasion Sham Lal Basson ex-corporator said that Ramabai Ambedkar was born in a poor family to Bhikhu Dhotre and Rukmani in the village of Vanand near Dapoli Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. Ramanai was married to Bhim Rao on 4th April 1906 in a simple ceremony at fish market at Byculla Bombay Ambedkar's at the age of 9 years. Ambedkar's affectionate name for Ramabai was ‘Ramu’. They had five children namely Yashwant,Gangadhar, Indu and Rajratna.They lost. They lost four children except Yashwant Rao at very tender age. Basson further said that Dr BR Ambedkar's book "Thoughts on Pakistan published in 1941 was dedicated to Ramai. In the preface Ambedkar credits her with his transformation from an an ordinary Bhiva or Bhima to Dr B R Ambedkar. Ramabai played a pivotal role in supporting Baba Saheb's education abroad which ultimately paved the way for the emancipation of millions of untouchables. Despite facing numerous challenges including financial struggles and personal losses, Ramabai remained a pillar of strength for Baba Saheb. She took care of children, managed the household and even worked to support family during difficult times.Her sacrifices and unwavering support enabled Baba Saheb to focus on his studies and later his work as social reformer. Ramabai expired on 27th May 1935 at Rajgreh in Hindu Colony Dadar Bombay (Mumbai) after a prolonged illness. Those who paid respectful tributes to Mata Rama Bai included Joginder Kumar, Subash Chander, Anil Basson, Raj Kumari, Suraj Prakash, Raj Kumari Basson, Sanjeev Kumar, Vishal Kumar, Dev Raj, Parveen Kumari, Raj Kumari Majhotra, Lalita Devi, Anita Devi, Mannat, Anju Thapa, Jahvi Samrat, Samaksh Basson, Shakuntla Devi Yuvraj Singh and others. |
