Fuel Supplies stable across J&K, Ladakh despite sharp rise in Consumption
5/30/2026 9:40:36 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 30: Amid a recent surge in fuel demand across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies - IndianOil, BPCL and HPCL - have reassured consumers that sufficient stocks of Petrol, Diesel and LPG are available and uninterrupted supplies are being maintained through close coordination of operations and logistics.
According to a statement issued by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), the Public Sector OMCs recorded a substantial increase in fuel sales in Jammu & Kashmir during the period from May 1 to May 28, 2026. Petrol sales registered a growth of 24 per cent, while Diesel sales increased by 12 per cent over the corresponding period last year. During this period, the total sales volume stood at 51,820 KL of Petrol (MS) and 78,928 KL of Diesel (HSD).
State Level Coordinator, Oil Industry, Shri Himanshu Sharma, attributed the increased demand to seasonal agricultural activities, rising tourist movement and the festive period associated with Eid al-Adha. He said that additional demand pressure has also been observed due to a noticeable shift of institutional and commercial consumers towards retail fuel outlets.
"Public Sector OMCs are continuously coordinating operations, logistics and distribution planning to efficiently address the enhanced demand scenario and ensure uninterrupted availability of essential petroleum products," Sharma said.
Reassuring consumers, Shri Himanshu Sharma stated that adequate stocks of Petrol, Diesel and LPG are available and all necessary measures are in place to maintain seamless supply across the region. He further said that OMCs are continuously reviewing stock positions and strengthening coordination mechanisms to effectively meet the increased demand. The Oil Industry has appealed to citizens to continue normal purchasing behaviour and avoid unnecessary panic buying. Consumers have also been advised to rely only on official communications issued by authorised agencies and Oil Marketing Companies for accurate information regarding fuel availability.
