| SKUAST-Jammu, JKST&IC celebrates World Environment Day | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 5: Under the dynamic leadership of Prof. B. N. Tripathi, Vice Chancellor, World Environment Day was celebrated at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu) in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Science, Technology and Innovation Council (JKST&IC). Dr. S K Gupta, Director Research of SKUAST Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion which was attended by Shruti Khanna, Assistant Director JKSTIC, Statutory officers of the university, Faculty members, researchers and students. Dr. C. M. Seth, former IFS officer was the lead speaker on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. S. K. Gupta, Director Research appreciated the support extended by JKST&IC in organizing the event and reiterated SKUAST-Jammu's commitment towards environmental sustainability through education, research, and extension activities. He encouraged students and young researchers to actively contribute towards conservation and climate resilience initiatives. The event was held under the theme "Renewable Energy for Sustainable Future" and witnessed active participation of students through a series of activities including poster making, speech competition, ideation, and awareness lectures were organized to sensitize participants about environmental conservation and the importance of renewable energy. Shruti Khanna, Assistant Director, JKST&IC, appreciated the efforts of SKUAST-Jammu in organizing activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness and scientific outlook among the youth. Dr. C. M. Seth, Former IFS officer, in his visionary lecture highlighted the growing environmental challenges and emphasized the importance of sustainable natural resource management, renewable energy adoption, and collective responsibility towards environmental protection. Dr. Jyoti Kachroo, Director ABIF, sensitised students about the opportunities in startups and emphasised that their centre is committed to support student's ideas that may lead to develop into bi business opportunities. Dr. Vikas Tandon, Dean, Faculty of Horticulture and Forestry highlighted the need to adopt eco-friendly technologies and sustainable resource management practices to combat climate change and environmental degradation. He emphasized the role of youth, educational institutions, and scientific organizations in building a greener and healthier future. The participants showcased innovative ideas and creative expressions related to renewable energy, environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development. Winners of various competitions were felicitated during the programme. The celebration concluded with a collective pledge to protect the environment and work towards a sustainable and cleaner future for coming generations.
