| Jammu (Rural) police foils two bovine smuggling attempts; 13 bovines rescued | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 7: Continuing its sustained drive against bovine smuggling under “Operation Kamdhenu,” Jammu (Rural) Police achieved another major success by foiling two separate bovine smuggling attempts in the jurisdictions of Police Station Akhnoor and Police Station Domana, rescuing a total of 13 bovine animals. In the first operation, a police team of Police Post Chowki Choura intercepted a vehicle bearing registration No. JK12C-8926 at Chowki Choura. Upon checking, the vehicle was found carrying 04 bovine animals in a cruel manner and attempting to transport them illegally. The vehicle was seized and two accused persons, namely Raiz Ahmed S/o Mohd Rustam R/o Saiklu, Mandi, District Poonch (Driver) and Mohd Irfan S/o Mohd Azam R/o Ward No. 01, Chandak, Tehsil Haveli, District Poonch, were arrested on the spot. In this regard, FIR No. 135/2026 under Section 223 BNS and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (PCA Act) has been registered at Police Station Akhnoor In another operation during the intervening night, a police team of Police Station Domana intercepted a Mahindra Tata Mobile bearing registration No. JK02DT-4769 and found it loaded with 09 bovine animals being transported illegally. On seeing the police party, the driver fled from the spot, abandoning the vehicle and the animals. The police rescued all 09 bovines and seized the vehicle. In this regard FIR No. 125/2026 under Section 223 BNS and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (PCA Act) has been registered at Police Station Domana. Further investigation in both cases is underway. Jammu (Rural) Police remains committed to taking stringent action against bovine smuggling and other unlawful activities to ensure effective enforcement of law and protection of animal welfare. |
