| KVK Reasi celebrates World Environment Day | | | Early Times Report
Reasi, June 7: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized World Environment Day with a plantation drive here at Bhabbar village in Reasi district of J&K. Number of women farmers of the village participated in the programme. The programme was organised under the dynamic leadership of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.N. Tripathi and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof.Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J. Chief Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr.Banarsi Lal started the programme with the warm welcome of the participants. He elaborated the environmental issues and discussed on the environmental protection. He informed the participants that the theme of this year World Environment Day is “Inspired by Nature.For Climate.For Our Future”. He emphasized on the balance between environment and development and said that there is dire need to focus on environmental concerns ranging from pollution to global warming and sustainable food production to protection of wildlife. He explained the water, air, soil and plastic pollution and their negative effects on the environment. He also spoke in detail on the causes and effects of global warming. He said that with the increase in the pollution, the percentage of green house gases emission have been increased resulting in the harmful effects on human beings and animals. He further said that we should plant more and more trees so that our environment can be made free of harmful gases. He added that with the indiscriminate use of agro-chemicals, our soil health is deteriorating. He expressed that about 40 per cent of the planet’s land is degraded thus affecting about half of population in the world. He stressed on the organic and natural farming for the safe and healthy food. He expressed that man himself has disturbed the environment resulting in the ill-effects on humans and animals. He narrated that with the development we should take care of our environment. He narrated that plastics are disrupting human hormones and causing major life-threatening diseases. He added that the exponential growth of plastics is threatening our planet’s survival. While guiding the participants he said that plastics take thousands of years to decay and their use should be reduced as more as possible. |
