Drug abuse & health issue
6/18/2026 9:30:30 PM
Neeraj Tickoo

Drug abuse is the compulsive and excessive use of psychoactive substances—such as illegal narcotics, alcohol, or prescription drugs—resulting in physical, psychological, and social harm. It fundamentally alters brain chemistry, hijacking reward pathways to create dependence and chronic addiction. The consequences of drug abuse are devastating. Physically, it ravages the body, leading to vital organ damage, cognitive decline, and a weakened immune system. Mentally, users often suffer from severe anxiety, paranoia, and depression. Socially, the impact creates a destructive ripple effect. It breaks apart families, strains healthcare systems, and contributes significantly to crime and unemployment.People often turn to drugs to cope with trauma, stress, or mental health disorders, or due to peer pressure and curiosity. Because addiction alters the brain’s decision-making centers, quitting is a complex and long-term process. It requires a combination of medical intervention, psychological counseling, and strong support systems.
