| KVK Reasi organizes Khet Bachao Abhiyan to educates SHGs members on Natural Farming | | | Early Times Report REASI, June 18: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Reasi uder the aegis of SKUAST-J organised the Khet Bachao Abhiyan (Save the Farm Campaign) and educated the Self Help Groups (SHGs) members on natural farming practices here at Ser Sundwan village of Bhomag block in Reasi district of J&K. The programme was organised under the dynamic leadership of Vice Chancellor, Prof. BN Tripathi and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof. Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-Jammu. Chief Scientist & Head of KVK Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal said that Reasi district of J&K has an immense scope in natural farming and farmers can produce safe food by avoiding the use of synthetic pesticides and herbicides in their crops. He further said that that for a healthy society, healthy food is required and natural farming can play the significant role in the production of quality food. He spoke in detail on four pillars of natural farming namely Beejamrit, Jeevamrit, Achhadana(mulching) and Wapasa (moisture). He informed that Jeevamrit is a rich source of bacteria that fixes nitrogen and solubilizes phosphorous, potassium and other micronutrients. He informed that mulching enhances soil nutrients, reduces insect-pests load,boosts productivity and offers economic sustainability. Earlier Dr. Sudhir Singh Jamwal, Scientist warmly welcomed the participants and said that natural farming is a technique through which farmers can reduce the cost of cultivation and produce the quality and healthy food.He informed that natural farming balances the agro-ecological system and can be considered as the future of farming. He said that by the adoption on natural farming farmers can enhance their income and employment with minimum or no input cost. He emphasized on the opportunities and self-employment generation among the farmers by the adoption of natural farming practices and inclusion of millets in diet.He educated the SHGs on the role of indigenous breeds of cow in natural farming. Rakesh Kundal, FPO Development Officer spoke on the Self Help Groups (SHGs)/Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs) for more farm profits. He guided participants on efficient marketing, branding and labelling. He said that natural farming is beneficial for human health, soil health and ecosystem and SHGs members should come forward to adopt it.Farmer-scientist interaction programme was also organised during which the participants asked various quarries which were answered satisfactorily by the experts. Farmers appreciated the efforts of KVK Reasi and responded that such programmes are very useful to increase their knowledge and skills especially on natural farming.The programme was concluded by Sh.Rakesh Kundal with formal vote of thanks. |
