| SCW, Crime Branch Jammu registers case in Rs 15 lakh Govt job fraud | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 18: The Special Crime Wing (SCW), Crime Branch Jammu has registered a criminal case against one Mehraj Ahmed Zargar of Bijbehara, Anantnag, for allegedly cheating a complainant of approximately ?15 lakh on the false promise of securing Government employment. The case has been registered following a written complaint lodged by the complainant , alleging that the accused falsely projected himself as the Personal Assistant to the Principal Secretary and claimed to have influence with senior Government authorities. On the strength of these false representations, the accused allegedly induced the complainant to pay around ?15 lakh in different instalments during 2024 for arranging Government jobs for his relatives. The accused also received a mobile phone from the complainant as a gift. A preliminary verification conducted by SCW, Crime Branch revealed that the accused had no authority or capacity to provide Government employment and had allegedly obtained the money through deception and misrepresentation. Despite receiving the money, no jobs were arranged, the amount was not refunded, and the accused reportedly became untraceable. On the basis of the findings of the preliminary verification, a formal case under Section 420 IPC has been registered at Police Station Special Crime Wing, Crime Branch Jammu, and further investigation has been taken up to ascertain the complete facts, identify any wider conspiracy or additional victims, and bring the offender to justice. The Crime Branch has once again advised the public to remain vigilant against individuals offering Government jobs in exchange for money and to verify such claims through official channels before making any payment. |
