Early Times Report JAMMU, July 2: The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has cleared the way for declaration of results and appointments to the posts of Chairperson and Members of the J&K Commission for Protection of Child Rights. A Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Kumar and Justice Mohd Yousuf Wani passed the order while hearing WP(C)PIL No. 19/2020 connected with WP(C) No. 2926/2025 and WP(C) No. 3088/2025. In WP(C) No. 3088/2025, the petitioner had sought directions to allow her to participate in the selection process/interview for the posts of Chairperson/Members of the Commission. The Court noted that pursuant to interim directions passed on November 7, 2025, the petitioner had already been permitted to appear in the interview. Since the relief had already been granted, the petition was dismissed as infructuous. Ms. Ayshia Zahgeer, Advocate, and Mr. Zubair Ahmad, Advocate appeared for the petitioners, while Mr. T.M. Shamsi, DSGI, Ms. Rehana, Advocate, Mr. T.A. Lone, Advocate and Mr. Meharban Singh, GA appeared for the respondents. The Bench noted that as per the latest status report filed by the Deputy Secretary to Government, Social Welfare Department, the selection process for appointment of Chairperson/Members of the Commission had been completed. However, the result could not be declared and the final selection list could not be published due to the interim directions earlier passed in WP(C) No. 3088/2025. Since the said petition stood dismissed as infructuous and the interim direction was vacated, the Court observed that there was now no impediment in declaring the selection result and making appointments. However, the Court made it clear that the selection and appointments shall remain subject to the outcome of WP(C) No. 2926/2025. The result of the petitioner, which had been produced in a sealed cover, was returned in open Court to the counsel for the respondents to proceed further and conclude the selection process. The matter has been listed for further consideration on August 29, 2026. (JNF) |
