Early Times Report JAMMU, July 6: Department of Botany, PSPS Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar Jammu, has initiated the 10 days summer internship programme w.e.f 6th July 2026 to 17th July 2026 on Skill course Mushroom Cultivation for the students of Sem V in collaboration with Directorate of Agriculture Production & Farmer's Welfare Department, Talab Tillo, Jammu. The programme was initiated under the aegis of Principal, GCW Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, Prof. (Dr.) Kulvinder Kour. This internship programme is organized as a part of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 with the aim to provide experiential learning and equip the students with necessary skills to cultivate mushroom that may be taken up by them as an entrepreneur in future. A total of 120 students will be undergoing 60 contact hours internship programme with the vision to learn and experience necessary skills in the field of mushroom cultivation. The soul objective of this programme is to enhance the knowledge of students in the field of mushroom cultivation so they can generate income and employment opportunities for themselves in the future. In these 10 days hands-on training, students will be able to learn about various aspects of mushroom cultivation viz. selection of mushroom species, preparation of compost, spawning, harvesting and post-harvesting management, marketing techniques etc. under the able guidance of the mushroom cultivation experts. On the inaugural day of this internship programme, the whole staff of the mushroom cultivation unit of Directorate of agriculture production, participated in the event. The Mushroom Development Officer, Sh. Raghuvir Pal Kochar talked on the various types of mushrooms viz button mushroom, milky mushroom and oyster mushroom. He explained the necessary steps involved in mushroom cultivation. Mrs. Sanjeet Kour (AEA) also explained about mushroom cultivation. She also deliberated on the nutritional and economic importance of mushrooms. A practical demonstration was also arranged for the students in which they were acquainted with the cultivation of Milky mushroom. Students were given hand on training for preparation of compost bags for cultivation of Milky mushrooms. Mr. Bhupinder Singh (AEA) and Mr. Mohan Singh (AEA) gave the practical demonstration very lucidly. The experts assured of the conducive learning environment for the practical work on mushrooms for the enthusiastic students. The whole programme was coordinated by Prof. Shivani Sharma (Head) and Dr. Anu Sharma (Assistant Prof.) Department of Botany. |
