Early Times Report SRINAGAR, July 14: The Food Safety Wing of the Food & Drugs Administration (FDA), J&K, has intensified food safety inspections across the Union Territory, particularly in tourist areas, to ensure the availability of safe, hygienic and quality food products for consumers. During a special inspection drive conducted in Srinagar and Gulmarg, 63 food establishments were inspected and 44 food samples of Ghee, Edible Oils, Honey, Spices and other food products were lifted and sent to NABL-accredited laboratories for testing. During the inspections, some deficiencies related to hygiene and sanitary practices were noticed. 12 Food Business Operators (FBOs) were compounded under Section 69 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, for minor violations and fine of Rs 17000 was imposed . All the enforcement authorities have been directed continue strict surveillance and enforcement activities, especially in tourist destinations and high-footfall areas.
