SRINAGAR, July 15: Condolence meetings continued on Thursday following the demise of Jammu & Kashmir National Conference Additional General Secretary, former Minister, distinguished political leader and dedicated public servant, Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal. Delegations representing different sections of society from across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh visited Dr Mustafa Kamal's residence at M.A. Road, Srinagar, where they conveyed their heartfelt condolences to National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Vice President and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and other members of the Abdullah family. They expressed profound grief over Dr. Kamal's passing and offered prayers for the eternal peace of his soul.
Those who called on the bereaved family included senior National Conference leaders, Cabinet Ministers, Members of the Legislative Assembly, former legislators, leaders of various political parties, opposition leaders, social activists, prominent religious scholars, members of the business community, lawyers, representatives of civil society, party office-bearers, workers and people from all walks of life. The visiting delegations paid glowing tributes to the late leader's lifelong political struggle, unwavering commitment to public service and steadfast adherence to principles, while expressing solidarity with the bereaved family during this difficult time.
Throughout the day, special prayers, recitation of the Holy Qur'an and Fateha Khawani were held for the departed soul. Religious scholars spoke on the philosophy of life and death, the virtues of patience and perseverance and emphasized that a person's righteous deeds continue to keep his legacy alive. They prayed for the elevation of Dr. Kamal's ranks in the Hereafter.
Political, social and religious leaders described Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal as a dignified, principled, sincere and fearless statesman who devoted his entire life to public service, democratic values, truth and justice. They recalled his humility, compassion for the poor, exemplary character, wisdom, foresight, patience and unwavering commitment to the people, saying that his life would continue to inspire future generations.
The speakers also recalled that during the imprisonment of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal endured severe hardships, imprisonment and torture, yet never wavered from the National Conference's principles, ideological commitments or his steadfast belief in truth and justice.
National Conference President and elder brother of the deceased, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all those who visited to offer condolences, attended the funeral prayers, and participated in the burial and last rites. He thanked political leaders, social and religious organisations, party workers and members of the public for standing by the family in its hour of grief.
Dr. Farooq Abdullah said that death is an undeniable reality from which no human being can escape, and that submitting to the will of Almighty Allah is the hallmark of a true believer. He described Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal's demise as an irreparable loss not only for the Abdullah family but also for the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference and the people of the region.
