GDC Hiranagar successfully completes Summer Internship Programme

HIRANAGAR, July 31: The Department of Geography, Govt. GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar, proudly announces the successful completion of its 15-day Summer Internship Programme conducted under the NEP-2020 Course Curriculum in collaboration with the Ravi Canal Construction Division, Hiranagar.
The internship programme was conducted under the able leadership of Dr. Pragya Khanna, Principal, Govt. GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar, and under the guidance of Prof. Namrata Chowdhary, Head, Department of Geography, along with Prof. Tammna Rajput, Assistant Professor, Department of Geography.
A total of 22 students from the Department of Geography successfully participated in the internship programme. The objective of the internship was to provide students with practical exposure to irrigation engineering, water resource management, and the application of modern geographical techniques in the field. During the programme, students received hands-on training in watershed management, canal mapping, field survey techniques, data collection, irrigation system management, and the use of Geographic Information System (GIS) tools.
The students were trained by experienced engineers of the Ravi Canal Construction Division, Hiranagar, who shared their technical knowledge and field expertise, enabling students to connect classroom learning with real-life applications. The internship significantly enhanced the students' practical skills and understanding of sustainable water resource management, fulfilling the objectives of experiential learning envisaged under NEP-2020.
The Department of Geography expresses its heartfelt gratitude to Er. Mohd Razaq, Assistant Executive Engineer, Sub-Division-I, Hiranagar, Er. Shahnawaz Ahmed Bhatti, Junior Engineer, Sub-Division-I, Hiranagar, and Er. Varun Sanyal, Junior Engineer, Sub-Division-II, Hiranagar, for their dedicated guidance, expert training, and continuous support throughout the internship. Their valuable contribution played a vital role in making the programme highly successful and enriching the practical learning experience of the students.
On the successful completion of the internship, Dr. Pragya Khanna, Principal, congratulated the Department of Geography and appreciated the efforts of the faculty members for organizing such a meaningful field-based learning programme. Prof. Namrata Chowdhary, Head of the Department, thanked the Ravi Canal Construction Division for its excellent cooperation and support, while Prof. Tammna Rajput, Assistant Professor, appreciated the enthusiasm, discipline, and active participation of the students throughout the training.
The Department also extends sincere appreciation to all the participating students for their commitment and dedication. The successful completion of the internship reflects the Department's commitment to promoting skill-based education, experiential learning, and effective collaboration with government departments in accordance with the vision of NEP-2020.
