Tricolour Flies High In Glasgow
8/3/2026 10:45:30 PM
Indian contingent made the country proud at Glasgow Commonwealth Games by winning 39 medals, including 13 Gold.
Performances of athletes underlines the country’s growing strength across multiple sporting disciplines. The performance adds to India’s consistent record at major multi-sport events and is expected to provide further momentum to the nation’s preparations for upcoming international competitions.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian contingent for its impressive performance and praised the athletes for their exceptional skill, determination and dedication.
In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said: “Proud of our contingent’s performance at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Delighted that India has won 39 medals, including 13 Golds. Congrats to the medal winners.”
The significance of India’s performance extends far beyond the medal tally. It underlines the country’s growing sporting ecosystem, strengthened by improved infrastructure, scientific coaching, enhanced training facilities and increased institutional support. Government initiatives such as the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), Khelo India and greater investment in grassroots sports have contributed significantly to identifying and nurturing talent. The role of sports federations, private academies, coaches and support staff has also been instrumental in preparing athletes for international competitions.
India’s consistent performances at recent multi-sport events, including the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and the Olympics, indicate that the country is steadily transforming into a global sporting power. The Glasgow results reinforce this positive trend and provide valuable momentum as India prepares for upcoming international competitions, including future Asian Games, World Championships and the Olympic Games. Success breeds confidence, and confidence often translates into even greater achievements on the world stage.
The Glasgow Commonwealth Games have once again shown that Indian athletes possess the talent, resilience and determination to compete with the world’s best. Their success is not merely a sporting achievement but a reflection of a confident and ambitious nation striving for excellence. As the tricolour flew high in Glasgow, it carried with it the aspirations of more than a billion Indians.
The remarkable performance should serve as both a celebration of present success and an inspiration to build an even stronger sporting future, where India’s presence on international podiums becomes an enduring reality.
