Delegation of Kashmiri displaced leaders meets Relief & Rehabilitation Commissioner
8/5/2026 10:33:19 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 5: Today, a delegation of senior social activists and community representatives from Jagti Migrant Camp and other migrant camps, comprising Sanjay Dhar (Political Leader), A.K. Sadhu (Social Activist), Piaray Lal Pandita (Political Leader), Raj Kumar Ticku (Political Leader), and others, called on the Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (Migrants), Dr. Arvind Karwani Ji, at his office chambers to seek the urgent redressal of the long-pending problems being faced by the displaced Kashmiri migrant community.
The delegation urged the Relief Commissioner to undertake the repair and renovation of migrant camp quarters on a war footing, including both exterior and interior portions, particularly leaking rooftops, damaged ceilings, and deteriorated structures. The delegation stressed that the renovation should be carried out in a systematic, transparent, and uniform manner, without any pick-and-choose policy, so that all camps receive equal treatment. They also requested that the execution and quality of the work be monitored by an officer not below the rank of Junior Engineer (J.E.) from the Relief Organisation.
The delegation also expressed serious concern over the continuing drinking water crisis in Jagti Township and TRT Nagrota. It was pointed out that despite the deadline fixed for restoration of regular water supply by 30 July 2026, the supply has still not been fully streamlined. The Relief Commissioner was requested to personally monitor the matter and ensure uninterrupted water supply to the camp residents.
The delegation further requested that Zonal Officers be directed to spend at least one working day every week in their respective camp areas to hear the grievances of residents on the spot, as many elderly migrants, women, and economically weaker families are unable to visit the offices. The delegation emphasized that grievance redressal at the grassroots level would greatly improve public confidence. The Relief Commissioner agreed in principle and assured that appropriate directions would be issued to the concerned Zonal Officers.
The delegation also highlighted the urgent need to remove overgrown grass, including hazardous Congress grass, from parks in all migrant camps, as these areas have become breeding grounds for snakes and pose a serious threat to public health. The Relief Commissioner assured the delegation that the matter would be taken up with the concerned authorities immediately.
