Jammu, Aug 9: The NSS Unit of the Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET), Jammu, has kick-started a week-long series of programmes to commemorate the 80th Independence Day with a host of activities aimed at fostering patriotism, national consciousness, civic responsibility and a deeper understanding of the country’s glorious freedom struggle among students. The programme was organised under the able guidance of the Principal GCET Jammu, Prof. Sameeru Sharma. In her message, Prof. Sharma emphasised the importance of remembering the freedom fighters who made immense sacrifices for the independence of the nation. She said that the younger generation must remain connected with the history of India’s freedom struggle and draw inspiration from the courage, determination, selflessness and patriotism displayed by those who fought for the country. She further encouraged students to understand the responsibilities that come with freedom and to contribute constructively towards the development and progress of the nation.
The week-long celebrations commenced with an online quiz competition organised on the theme “Honouring the Freedom, Inspiring the Future.” The quiz was designed to engage students in an informative and meaningful exploration of India’s freedom struggle, the sacrifices of the nation’s freedom fighters and the values that continue to shape the country’s democratic journey.
The online quiz witnessed an enthusiastic response from the students, with more than 80 students participating in the competition. The participants displayed great enthusiasm and zeal while demonstrating their knowledge of India’s history, freedom movement and national achievements. The event coordinators, Dr. Raman Gupta, Dr. Heera Saini and Er. Atit Sharma appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the students and encouraged them to take active part in the multiple events scheduled as part of the week-long celebrations. They highlighted the importance of student participation in such programmes, stating that co-curricular activities provide an effective platform for developing leadership qualities, social responsibility, teamwork and a strong sense of national pride among young minds.
The NSS Unit has planned a series of engaging activities like poster and slogan writing competition, patriotic short film screening, unity run & sports, signature campaign, plantation drive and Tiranga rally during the week to further strengthen the spirit of patriotism and encourage students to actively participate in commemorating the nation’s Independence Day. The initiative reflects the continued commitment of the NSS Unit of GCET Jammu towards the holistic development of students by providing them with opportunities to engage in activities that promote patriotism, social awareness, community participation and responsible citizenship. The week-long celebrations are expected to further reinforce the values of freedom, unity, responsibility and service to the nation, inspiring students to carry forward the legacy of India’s freedom fighters and contribute towards building a stronger, progressive and inclusive India. |
