Early Times Report CHANDIGARH, Aug 13: Victory Against Drug Abuse (VADA) Club and NSS Units of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women organised two engaging activities to promote healthy lifestyles, national pride, creativity and social responsibility among students. The VADA Club organised a Yogasana Competition to sensitise students to the dangers of drug abuse and encourage them to embrace healthy and physically active lifestyles. The Chief Guest, Dr. Mahender Singh, Joint Director, Sports, U.T. Chandigarh and State VADA Nodal Officer, Chandigarh, shared his valuable insights on the benefits of incorporating yoga and physical exercise into daily life. He emphasised that regular exercise and yoga promote positivity, enhance concentration and contribute to overall physical and mental well-being. He also underlined the importance of healthy eating and an active lifestyle in preventing lifestyle-related health concerns such as hypertension, diabetes and obesity. Students enthusiastically demonstrated various asanas, including Tadasana, Vrikshasana, Trikonasana, Bhujangasana, Vajrasana, Padmasana, Dhanurasana and Sarvangasana, displaying discipline, flexibility and dedication. Hashmit (B.A. Third Year) secured the first position, followed by Trisha Ajay Singh (B.A. Third Year) in second place and Komal (M.A. Sociology, Second Year) in third place. Trisha (B.Com., First Year) secured the fourth position. The winners were felicitated with cash prizes. The NSS Units, meanwhile, organised a Patriotic Poetry Recitation Competition under the aegis of 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign. Dressed in white and united in patriotic spirit, the participants expressed their love and respect for the nation through evocative poetry. The event provided a platform for students to showcase their literary talent while reflecting on the values of national pride, unity, service and nation-building. The campus resonated with patriotic fervour as the NSS volunteers participated with enthusiasm, discipline and commitment. Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma appreciated the initiatives of the VADA Club and NSS Units, observing that such activities provide students with constructive avenues for self-expression and personal growth. She emphasised that yoga, physical activity, creativity and patriotic engagement help inculcate determination, discipline, social responsibility and a spirit of active participation in nation-building among the youth. |
