ASHWANI SHARMA Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, Aug 14: One person was killed and another critically injured after a Village Defence Committee (VDC) member allegedly opened fire on two of his colleagues in the Damnot area of Udhampur district on Friday. According to officials, the incident occurred when Surjeet Singh, son of Chain Singh, a resident of Sasri Damnot Morha, Kulthle, Tehsil Moungri, allegedly fired at two persons travelling towards Damnot Police Post. In the firing, Baldev Singh, son of Karta Singh, sustained fatal gunshot injuries and died on the spot. Another person, Romesh Singh, son of Nak Ram, suffered serious injuries and was shifted to a hospital for treatment. His condition was stated to be critical. Police officials said that all the persons involved in the incident are members of the Village Defence Committee. Preliminary reports suggest that an argument broke out among them during the journey, following which the firing took place. A police team immediately reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. The area was secured and further investigation was initiated. Police officials said legal action has been taken and the exact circumstances and motive behind the firing are being ascertained. Further details are awaited. |
