| Tricolour soars high as MCM marks 80th I-Day with patriotic fervour | | | Early Times Report
CHANDIGARH, Aug 16: Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan culminated at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, with a vibrant celebration marking the 80th Independence Day of the nation. The celebrations commenced with the ceremonial hoisting of the Tricolour, followed by a culturally enriching programme that paid homage to India's glorious freedom struggle and celebrated the spirit of patriotism.
The cultural programme featured soulful musical presentations, followed by an evocative dance performance based on the Mahabharata, depicting the timeless values of courage, duty and righteousness. A powerful nukkad natak presented by the students served as a heartfelt tribute to the freedom fighters whose sacrifices paved the way for India's independence. The occasion also witnessed the felicitation of young torchbearers of the institution from the NCC and NSS, along with the winners of various competitions organised in the run-up to Independence Day. Their achievements and commitment to service were applauded as an embodiment of the spirit of responsible citizenship. The celebration concluded with a renewed pledge to cherish the values of freedom, uphold national unity and contribute meaningfully towards building a strong, progressive and globally leading India.
Officiating Principal Neena Sharma described the occasion as a historic moment and a tribute to the motherland and to all those who gave their lives and made immense sacrifices to uphold the freedom and unity of the nation. She called upon the students to reaffirm their commitment to the unity, integrity and progress of the country. She urged the young generation to celebrate the festival of freedom not merely as a national occasion but as a reminder of their lasting responsibility towards society.
Emphasising the importance of intellectual freedom, she said that citizens must learn to think freely and act freely, as mental slavery is among the most ignoble forms of bondage. She exhorted the students to aspire for an India that leads the world through knowledge, innovation, compassion and responsible citizenship. |
