Early Times Report AKHNOOR, Aug 16: The 80th Independence Day was celebrated across Akhnoor with great patriotic fervour, enthusiasm and national pride. Flag-hoisting ceremonies were organised at various schools, panchayats, government institutions, public places and prominent locations across the area, with people paying homage to the freedom fighters and brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation. At Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Akhnoor, the National Flag was unfurled by SDM Akhnoor Mukhtar Ahmad Lone. Students presented a march past and a series of patriotic and cultural performances, adding colour and spirit to the celebrations. At PM Shri Higher Secondary School, Soahal, Akhnoor MLA Mohan Lal hoisted the National Flag and took the salute. The programme commenced with the welcome of the Chief Guest, followed by flag hoisting, the National Anthem and an impressive march past by students. Students presented Saraswati Vandana and several patriotic performances. A patriotic presentation on "Ae Watan, Ae Watan, Mere Aabaad Rahe Tu", prepared by Rupali Ma'am and her team, was particularly appreciated. Another patriotic dance, "Tere Himalaya", prepared by Pradeep Ma'am and team, received an enthusiastic response from the audience. Certificates were also distributed among students of Classes 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th for their achievements. The programme was conducted with the support of Stage Secretary Aman Mishra, Stage Secretary Anu Devi and Principal Sushma Thakur, besides teachers, students and parents. Addressing the gathering, MLA Mohan Lal extended Independence Day greetings and paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters and soldiers whose sacrifices secured the nation's freedom. He called upon students to uphold discipline, patriotism and a strong sense of responsibility towards the nation. Emphasising the importance of youth in nation-building, Mohan Lal said that Akhnoor's youth are talented and energetic and need the right opportunities, platforms and facilities to realise their potential. He said strengthening the ITI, developing new playgrounds and playfields, promoting traditional akharas and expanding sports infrastructure are among the priorities for the constituency. He also stressed the need to connect young people with employment opportunities and said that job fairs and employment-oriented initiatives would be encouraged to provide local youth with better avenues for jobs and skill development. Mohan Lal urged youngsters to stay away from drugs and other social evils, saying that sports grounds and akharas can play a vital role in channelising youthful energy towards constructive pursuits. Independence Day celebrations were also held at the MLA's Office, Shubh Tilak Hospital and BJP Office, Akhnoor, besides several panchayats and other locations across the constituency. The entire region echoed with patriotic songs and slogans, reflecting the spirit of national unity and pride. |
