| Landslide threat looms over Dhingidhar village, residents seek immediate safety measures | | |  Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Aug 24: Residents of Dhingidhar (Bariote) village in Moungri Tehsil of District Udhampur have urged the administration to take immediate safety and preventive measures following a serious landslide and land-sinking threat along the Lalli Dabad-Tote Road.
According to a written representation submitted to the District Administration, the Public Works Department and the Tehsildar Moungri, a portion of land below the Lalli Dabad-Tote Road, Third Phase, at RD No. 0/50, has reportedly been continuously sinking. The affected stretch is approximately 25-30 metres long and has developed into a landslide-prone zone.
Residents said the situation becomes more dangerous during rainfall, with the affected area gradually sliding and sinking. They expressed concern that a major landslide could severely affect the nearby population.
The representation states that more than 30 houses could be seriously affected in the event of a major landslide. Residents fear damage to houses, land and other property if the situation worsens.
Citing continuous heavy rainfall and the increasing risk of landslides, the villagers have requested the concerned authorities to conduct an immediate joint inspection of the site through the technical team and take necessary protective and preventive measures.
They have also sought suitable rehabilitation arrangements for vulnerable families, if required, and urged the administration to address the issue on priority to prevent any untoward incident.
The residents expressed hope that the District Administration and concerned departments will act promptly and ensure the safety of the people living in the vulnerable area. |
