UDHAMPUR, Aug 25: With unwavering faith in Lord Shiva and a strong message for the protection of the Devika River, Rakshan Sharma is undertaking a unique Kawad Yatra on foot from Haridwar to Udhampur. After covering hundreds of kilometres, Rakshan has now reached Tikri and is expected to arrive in Udhampur tomorrow.
Speaking to Early Times during his journey, Rakshan Sharma said that the pilgrimage is being undertaken with the blessings of Bholenath and that he is confident of completing the entire journey with Lord Shiva's grace.
Rakshan said he has been carrying a statue of Lord shiva Ji on his shoulders from Haridwar, along with sacred Ganga water, throughout the pilgrimage. According to him, the main purpose of the journey is not merely religious but also to spread awareness about the importance of keeping rivers and water bodies clean.
He said the Ganga water brought from Haridwar will be ceremonially connected with the holy Devika River in Udhampur, describing the Devika as the "elder sister" of the Ganga and expressing his desire to symbolically unite the two sacred rivers.
"The water I have brought from Haridwar is Ganga Maiya. My aim is to bring Ganga Maiya to Udhampur and unite her with Devika Maiya. I want to convey a message that we must protect and keep our Devika clean," Rakshan said during the interaction.
He also appealed to the people of Udhampur to come together for the cleanliness and protection of the Devika River. He urged residents to wake up, unite and contribute towards making Devika clean and pollution-free.
Rakshan further said that after reaching Udhampur, he and his team would continue the campaign for keeping the Devika clean and would work to create greater public awareness about the importance of preserving the sacred river.
He recalled that this was not his first spiritual journey, saying that he had earlier undertaken Kawad Yatras to Mata Machail as well.
As Rakshan prepares to enter Udhampur tomorrow, his pilgrimage carries a message that combines faith, devotion and environmental responsibility, with the sacred Ganga water from Haridwar becoming a symbol of his appeal to protect and preserve Devika.
