Exposure visit of Udhampur farmers organised at KVK Reasi

UDHAMPUR, Aug 26: Department of Agriculture, Udhampur organised exposure visit for farmers from different villages of Udhampur district here at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J).
The village was attended by a number of farmers of the district. The visit was organised under the dynamic stewardship of Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.N. Tripathi and able guidance of Director Extension (DE), Prof. Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J. The programme was co-ordinated by the Vikas Padha, Chief Agriculture Officer, Udhampur and Sudhir Manhas DAO Udhampur.
Chief Scientist & Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, Dr.Banarsi Lal warmly welcomed the participants and guided them on scientific agriculture. While speaking during the technical session he spoke in detail on the commercial organic and natural farming. He also discussed the income and employment opportunities in agriculture and allied sectors.
He guided farmers on hydroponics technology, natural farming, mushroom cultivation etc. and said that farmers should avail the benefits of such types of useful programmes to upgrade their skills and knowledge. He stressed on entrepreneurship development in natural farming and discussed in detail on pillars of natural farming. He also demonstrated the techniques of preparation of natural farming formulations such as Jeevamrit, Beejamrit etc. He also stressed on recycling of farm based resources. Dr. Sudhir Singh Jamwal Scientist spoke on protected cultivation of vegetables. He stressed on entrepreneurship development in horticultural crops. He also spoke on the value addition in agriculture and guided farmers on marketing of agroproducts.He also guided farmers on management of monkeys menace and highlighted certain viable crops in the area. He highlighted the efficient agricultural management practices for more farm returns. Smt.Heena Raina, Coordinator SHGs Department of Agriculture, Udhampur also spoke during the programme. She guided farmers on entrepreneurial opportunities in agriculture, environmental health and stressed on soil health management practices. She thanked KVK Reasi scientists and asked the farmers to avail the benefits of such types of exposure visits. Farmers visited the hydroponics unit, nano kitchen garden, natural farming unit, solar fencing system, crop cafeteria, spices unit etc. established at KVK Reasi and they showed keen interest in the demonstrated technologies. An exhibition on scientific farming was also arranged during the programme. Farmers interacted with the scientist during the visit and asked various quarries which were answered by the scientist in a satisfactorily way. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal, Summar Qureshi and concluded by Heena Raina with the formal vote of thanks.
