| Surinder Choudhary calls BJP's Secretariat Gherao Hypocritical, Demand Statehood for J&K | | |  Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 29: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Senior leader and Deputy Chief Minister J&K on Saturday hit out at the BJP over what he termed its "blatant hypocrisy", questioning the rationale behind its proposed gherao of the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar. Interacting the party functionaries at National Conference Party Provincial Headquarter at Gandhi Nagar, Jammu In the presence of Arjun Singh Raju Hon'ble MLA Ramban and Pyare Lal MLA Inderwal.
Choudhary said that if the BJP is genuinely concerned about the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and other serious issues of pertaining to people of J&K, it should first take its protest to its own national leadership in New Delhi rather than targeting the elected government in Srinagar.
"The ultimate irony of this entire situation is that the BJP wants to gherao the Secretariat. All of us actually expected the Jammu and Kashmir BJP to gherao its own national headquarters in New Delhi instead, and demand restoration of statehood for J&K from the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister," he said.
He questioned why the BJP's Jammu and Kashmir unit was choosing to protest against the elected government instead of holding its own central leadership accountable for the continued delay in restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and serious issues facing the people and elected Govt led by Omar Abdullah.
Choudhary said the people of J&K deserve clarity and sincerity on the issue of statehood, and that political theatrics cannot substitute for accountability from those who have the authority to deliver on the commitment.
Provincial President Jammu, Adv. Rattan Lal Gupta, today strongly criticised the BJP over the persistent rise in prices of essential household commodities, including petrol, diesel, cooking gas and other kitchen and daily-use consumable items.
Gupta said that inflation has severely affected the common man, particularly poor and middle-class families, whose household budgets have been badly disturbed by the continuous increase in the cost of essential commodities. He said the BJP, which used to raise these very issues aggressively while in opposition and even gherao its national headquarters in Delhi, appears to have forgotten its earlier promises after coming to power.
The NC Provincial President further said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are already facing unemployment and economic difficulties, and rising prices are adding to their hardships. He called upon the BJP-led Central Government to listen to the voice of the people and fulfil the commitments it had made to them.
