| MCM NSS volunteers spread message of healthy, addiction-free living | | |  Early Times Report
CHANDIGARH, Aug 31: NSS Units of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women organised a community outreach programme under the "No Nasha Nation" campaign at the adopted village of Badheri, Sector 41-D, to sensitise the community, particularly young people, about the harmful consequences of substance abuse and promote a healthy, purposeful and addiction-free lifestyle. The programme brought together social awareness, performing arts, environmental action and emotional well-being through a series of engaging activities. An awareness talk highlighted the physical, psychological and social repercussions of substance abuse and encouraged participants to make responsible choices, avoid addictive substances and pursue positive avenues for personal growth and well-being. The awareness campaign was further strengthened through an impactful Nukkad Natak presented by NSS volunteers. Through relatable situations and powerful performances, the street play portrayed the devastating impact of addiction on individuals, families and society, while conveying a message of hope, resilience and transformation. As part of the environmental component, a Medicinal Plantation Drive was organised in the village, with NSS volunteers and community members planting medicinal and ecologically significant saplings, including Neem, Bael, Banyan and Peepal. The activity underscored the importance of nurturing nature and promoting medicinal plantations for a healthier and more sustainable future. A special initiative, Feel the Healing Touch- Hug a Tree Campaign", added an emotional and experiential dimension to the programme. Participants were encouraged to embrace trees as a symbolic expression of gratitude, care and their emotional bond with Mother Nature. The programme effectively integrated the messages of drug-free living, environmental responsibility and emotional well-being, inspiring the community to make healthier, greener and more purposeful choices.
Officiating Principal Neena Sharma appreciated the meaningful initiatives undertaken by the NSS Units and lauded the volunteers for their enthusiastic participation and commitment to community welfare. She emphasised that such outreach activities foster a strong sense of social responsibility among students while enabling them to create a positive impact beyond the college campus. |
