| District level NCORD meeting held at Kathua | | |  Early Times Report
KATHUA, Aug 31: Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma today chaired a meeting of the District-Level Narco Coordination Committee (NCORD) to review the drug control measures and assess the progress achieved by the concerned departments in combating the menace of narcotics in the district.
At the outset, the meeting undertook a detailed review of the action taken on the decisions of previous NCORD meetings, besides assessing the status of enforcement activities, identification of vulnerable areas and measures adopted to prevent drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
It was given out in the meeting that suspension/ cancellation of Vehicle Registration Certificates has been ensured by the Motor Vehicle Department of persons involved in illicit drug trafficking. The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officers to further intensify coordinated efforts against the cultivation, trafficking and peddling of narcotic substances. He stressed upon the enforcement agencies to maintain close surveillance over vulnerable areas and ensure strict action against persons found involved in narcotics-related activities as per law.
Emphasizing the need for a comprehensive approach to tackle drug abuse, the DC directed the Health, Education, Social Welfare and other concerned departments to intensify awareness and sensitization programmes, particularly among youth and students, about the harmful effects of drug abuse. He directed the stakeholders to ensure regular sharing of information and prompt follow-up action on inputs related to narcotics activities. He stressed that concerted efforts by all concerned departments are essential to effectively curb the drug menace and create a safer and healthier environment for the people of the district.
The meeting was attended by GM DIC Mushtaq Choudhary; ADC Mahima Madan; ASP Sunil Kesar; CMO Dr Vijay Raina; ACD Akhil Sadotra; CAO, DSWO, other concerned officers and representatives of the concerned departments attended the meeting. |
