| SDRF ensures 24x7 safety of pilgrims during SANJY, Budha Amarnath Yatra | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 5: The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) played a crucial role in ensuring the safety, security and emergency preparedness of pilgrims during the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY) and Shri Budha Amarnath Ji Yatra, maintaining round-the-clock operational readiness at key locations across Jammu and Kashmir.
During the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, SDRF personnel were deployed at the Tawi River Front, designated as a Yatra Registration Point, as well as at the Bhagwati Nagar Yatra Base Camp in Jammu. Teams were also stationed at strategic locations along the yatra routes in Kathua, Samba, Jammu, Udhampur and Ramban districts to ensure immediate response to any emergency or disaster situation.
The SDRF deployment was carried out under the command and control of officers nominated from the Battalion Headquarters. DySP Lalit Kumar was designated as the controlling officer for the Bhagwati Nagar Base Camp and Tawi River Front in Jammu, under the close supervision of SSP Commandant SDRF Jammu, Mohammad Aslam, IPS.
Throughout the yatra period, SDRF personnel remained deployed at designated locations and maintained operational readiness on a 24x7 basis. Essential search-and-rescue equipment, life-saving appliances and other emergency response gear were kept ready for immediate deployment.
The teams also conducted regular checks of designated areas along the yatra routes to identify potential hazards and strengthen preparedness for any eventuality. SDRF personnel remained available for immediate search, rescue, evacuation and emergency response operations whenever required.
Particular attention was given to the Tawi River Front, where SDRF teams worked in coordination with medical teams to assist pilgrims. With boating activities being organised for pilgrims by the Jammu Municipal Corporation and Jammu Smart City, SDRF rescue boats were deployed as Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) to respond immediately to any water-related emergency.
The Tawi River Aarti, organised during the evening hours, also attracted a large number of pilgrims who participated in the ceremony and boating activities. The presence of SDRF rescue boats and personnel ensured an additional layer of safety during these gatherings.
At the Bhagwati Nagar Yatra Base Camp, SDRF personnel assisted J&K Police and other agencies in ensuring the safety and well-being of pilgrims, particularly during periods of heavy pilgrim movement. Equipped with modern gadgets and emergency-response equipment, the personnel remained alert and prepared to deal with any situation.
During SANJY, SDRF Mountain Rescue Teams (MRTs) were also deployed along the route towards the Holy Cave to maintain operational preparedness throughout the pilgrimage.
The Bhagwati Nagar Base Camp subsequently served as the base camp for the Shri Budha Amarnath Ji Yatra, which commenced on August 17, 2026, and culminated on Shavan Purnima. SDRF teams were deployed at various locations along the route towards Poonch to ensure immediate assistance and rescue support to pilgrims.
The SDRF manpower deployed at the Tawi River Front, Bhagwati Nagar Base Camp and along the yatra routes from Kathua to Ramban, besides the route of the Shri Budha Amarnath Ji Yatra towards Poonch, discharged their responsibilities with dedication and professionalism. |
