JAMMU, Sept 5: While speaking on this occasion Sham Lal basson General Secretary and ex-corporator said that Babu Jagdev Prasad was born in Kurhari village of Jahanabad district in Bihar. He did his graduation from Patna University. Prasad played important role is said to have revolutionary mindset since his early childhood. He fought to end prevailing practices like "Panchkathia System" in which farmers had to leave 5 katta of their land for elephant of landlord to graze. Jagdev Prasad's son Nagmani is veteran politician who started his career from father's party itself. He later joined RJD and remained minister in RJD government. Former chief minister of Bihar, Sh Satish Prasad Singh , who held the office for shortest tenure in Bihar's history as a nominee of Shoshit Samaj Dal, was brother in law of Jagdev Prasad. In 1967, Prasad was with Ram Manohar Lohia and the formation of first non- congress govt took place in the state of Bihar. Prasad played important role in formation of first Backward Caste led government in Bihar. Basson said that today is the martyrdom day of Jagdev Prasad popularly known as Jagdev Babu who was one of the fierce fighters of OBC'S (Shudra) of India. His father Prayag Narain was a middle school teacher. Babu Jagdev Prasad belonged to the Kushwaha caste(koiri), the gardeners same caste group in which Mahatma Jyotirao Phule was born in Maharashtra. He was first leader to blend social justice politics with Secularism. Popular slogan of Jagdev Prasad was, Das ka Shashan nabbe par, Nahi chalega nahi chalega Sau mein nabbe Shoshit hain, Nabbe bhag Hamara Hai Dhan dharti aur rajpaat mein. On 5 September 1974 Jagdev Prasad was holding a peaceful demonstration alongwith thousands of his supporters in Kurtha sub division of Jahanabad district. His key demands were that Ambedkarite literature should be made available in libraries, that Punpun irrigation project should be implemented and that corruption should end.He was killed in police firing. He was not taken to hospital and was dragged to police station where he died. Bablu Jagdev Prasad needs to be soluted and remembered. It is the time we acknowledge his phenomenonal contribution for not only socio- political rights of marginalized but also spreading reasoning, Enlightenment and humanist values.These values are need of hour today specially in north Indian. Babu Jagdev Prasad's sacrifice for the landless peasants of Bihar is an example .Those who paid respectful tributes to Amar Shaheed Babu Jagdev Prasad included Prof C L Shivgotra, Spokesperson All J and K Guru Ravi Dass Sabha (Regd) Jammu, F C Satia- President All India Backward classes Federation and Chairman Sant Ram B A Education Foundation, Baldev Raj Nargotra- Chairman Bahu Fort Development committee, Er G R Dafara - General secretary-Sant Ram B A Education Foundation, Mangat Ram Kalsi- Secy GRDS Bahu Fort Jammu, Om Parkash,Som Nath, Tarun Kalsi, Parkash chand, Moti Ram Angral and others.
